This week I was invited to be a RAWartist.
What the heck does that mean? I don’t make art out of
uncooked food, if that’s what you’re thinking!
RAW: natural born artists is an
independent organization focused on helping artists within the first ten years
of their career to be inspired and get established in the creative community.
RAW works in 60 cities around the US, Canada, Australia, and UK, putting on one-night
showcases for these new artists to perform or display their work.
So I was invited to be a part of this. What does that mean
for me? As a RAWartist, I now have an online profile at the RAW website where
people can learn about me and see some of my work, and I can connect and
network with other artists. At the showcase I will get a professional headshot
and photographs of my work and my display, which I will then have free access
to (without watermarks!). And I will be able to
participate in any out-of-state showcases I want for one year. Additionally,
RAW will promote me (me, lil ol' Cailey!) on Facebook and Instagram.
Basically, this is an opportunity to have a one-night art show with ongoing networking and promotion provided.

I’ll be honest. I’m nervous about the event. I’m not a
crowds person. I’m really not a people-person at all (hence my online
presence?), so this event is going to stretch me. But I know it could
make all the difference for my career, and I know it’s going to be a lot of
fun.
So that’s great. But... all that stuff don't come free.
And that's where you come in. I’m responsible for selling twenty tickets to the event. Tickets are $15 each, and I’ll have to pay the remaining balance by March 24 (one week before the showcase). I’ll be real with you folks: I can’t exactly afford any of this. What with ordering the photography I plan to display, hanging materials, and business cards and promo materials for the night of the event, I’m already shelling out some cash for this, and I definitely can't afford to swallow the $300 worth of tickets I'm responsible for. So if you’re interested in going to a night of art, music, dance, fashion, and film, jump over to my RAW profile and buy a ticket. And then please stop by my display so I can personally thank you for supporting me! I’m already brushing up on my handshake and high five skills so I’ll be prepared to greet you.
When is this fancy-awesome showcase? Tuesday, March 31, from 7:00-11:00 p.m.
Where is this thing taking place? Shadowbox Live, 503 S Front St #260, Columbus, OH.
How much does it cost? $15 per person (18+, please; I guess they don't want a bunch of kids running around)
If you can't make it to the showcase, or just don't have the extra cash sitting around (trust me, I totally understand that predicament!), please keep me in mind and tell your art buddies in the Columbus area. Thanks.
